Spain owns.

And not for any specific reason either. It´s more of a collaborative effort by the night life, sights and decent people. The locals are majorily pretty nice. The beer is insanely cheap and the people at our hostel, and specifically our dorm, have been great.

Cheers is the buzz word and every night ends at 3-4am.

That´s not to to say that Barcelona´s been dominated by nightlife. We´ve seen the Gaudi architecture and the stadium, the beach and La Rambla (the street on which we´re staying). Its been 7 days today which makes it the longest we´ve stayed in one place. That being said, it´s one more night here and we´re off to portugal.

We´ve chosen Portugal over Madrid because we´ve heard that Madrid is not worth our time. We know it´s not always the best way to decide where we´re going by people´s input, but it´s been overwhelming. Everyone´s told us to skip Madrid and move on to the next scheduled stop, which happens to be Lagos - Portugal.

Portugals cheap, warm, close(ish) and best of all we´ve never heard a bad thing about it. The cost element has a lot to do with decision, Barcelona´s not been cheap. Not that it´s been incredibly expensive either, but we haven´t been doing ourselves a favour and saving as much money as other places. It´s just too hard to do. The hostel, while it is a good hostel, has no kitchen so food becomes expensive. We´ve met way too many people-friends and so we spend too much euro on having fun. Hopefully Portugal will provide some sort of break for us.

Speaking of money, chris and I are starting to think seriously about gettings jobs. Which we´ve heard will be easier than we originally thought. I give it til mid december and i´ll need to find a job. I´m hoping i´ll find one in a non english country so that i can maybe learn another language. That will also make it harder to get one, but we´ll see how things go.

To recap Barcelona would be impossible, but the highlights might be easier.

- went to a football (soccer) game. Was Barcelona vs Panathinaikos (greek team). Was well worth the 30 dollars Dan made us fork out in order for him to have some company. In the earlier stages i was not too stoked on spending that much money on a sport i dont take a particular interest in, but soccer in europe is huge and in the biggest stadium in europe it was a good investment.

- went to see the sagrida famialla (gaudi cathedral). Neat to see but a huge let down to see it covered in cranes and scaffolding. It´s not finished and wont be for a while, all in all was worth seeing. But a let down.

- The beach is nice. we´ve only been once and that´s plenty as far as i´m concerned.

- The aquarium blows. For me to say that it means a lot. Fortunetly we snuck in the exit door and saved ourselves the 14.50. We´ve become much better at scamming things, at that point it worked perfectly. Only a couple escalators to run backwards on and fences to jump.

- La Rambla is pretty well the heart of Barcelona and fortunetly our hostel is right on it. The street itself is just as much a landmark as everything else, filled with street vendors, eurotrash robots and pet stores. Yes, petstores. There are actual petstore kiosks where the locals sell things like pheasants, fish and turtles.

There´s a lot of weird things about spain, or atleast Barcelona. For example the mullet is in full swing here. Every man woman and child has a huge mullet. Not a subtle mullet either - - a kentucky waterfall to rival even billy ray sirus.
