not very happy, and still facing a 3 hours bus ride back to Saigon.
Once back in Saigon Jason and James suddenly told us that they were running out of money and wanted to fly back to Kuala Lumpur. This came as a bit of surprise, but we had a rough couple of days in Phnom Pengh and Saigon, and I guess they were just a bit tired and fed up of roughing it. So without much further consideration they left us early next morning to catch a flight back to KL, while Marc and I boarded a mini bus to get to Na Trang, a few hours up the coast. We only stayed for 2 days, but it was nice to finally be in a smaller place again. We did manage to see China beach, which was beautiful and completely empty.
Our next stop was the DMZ, the old division between South and North Vietnam during the war. We did one of the standard tours, visiting the tunnels and the former battlefields. We also went on Mama Hahn's boatrip, something a couple of people we had met before told us about. Basically you pay about 20 dollars and get to go on a chilled out cruise for a day, with snorkeling, good food an entertainment by some stoned American dudes playing their guitars.
The next day we caught a train to Hanoi, a 12 hour journey; we could not get tickets for the tourist class but managed to bribe some attendants to let us sleep in their room as the conditions in the 'common' class was pretty poor. We had some of the on-board food, a bad decision as I got pretty bad stomach problems and spent the first day in Hanoi in the toilet. We met some American guys, two teachers from Seattle and decided to hang our for a while. We went on a boat trip along the famous islands/ rocks in the harbor area and met some local university kids who showed us around town.
Hong Kong
Originally we wanted to get to Hong Kong overland, but we were running out of time, so we got a plane
