It was the first time I travelled on my own, but as it turned out, travelling on my own did not mean travelling alone...

Auckland

So here we go, I just arrived in Auckland a few hours ago, after stopping off in Singapore for one more night. Failed to meet up with the lot for our planned night at Jump, Ahoc – wedding, Eric – presentation to prepare, Edward – flu. But met Woon the day I left for lunch and Eric for dinner at the airport (got invited both times, love it). Flight was OK, perhaps worth mentioning that I overstayed my Visa in Thailand and that my parents luckily paid the fine for me (200 Baht a day).

That was however not as shocking as finding out 2 hours ago that my Visa Card, with which I was going to get my money in NZ, had expired in Nov. 1999, oh bullocks.

OK, so I am rather stuck in Auckland at the moment, and not in top form as I have not been sleeping well at all for the last few days (very noisy street close by). Met a very interesting character in the dorm though, English guy by the name of Craig. Earned his money by selling hamburgers to truckies for 4 years without paying any tax, then, when becoming afraid of being caught by the Inland Revenue, burned the van to get the insurance money. For the last two years he has been growing pot in his flat and selling it, netting $1500 a month. Told me how he loves his plants to bits, is stoned all the time, bought a police scanner to listen to the local police talk, and a CCTV camera monitoring his entrance. We got on really well though, funny given that we have had such different backgrounds.

Also in the dorm is a rather cool Korean guy, Koby, who is doing a language course here. Told me a lot about Korea, and how they are quiet strict and all, and about the Brazilian girl form his language course who came on to him at the Christmas party and threw up after giving him a kissing lesson.
