Fed up with after not even two years of employment I decided to quit my job and go travelling for a few months. This travelogue is a personal account of the trip, but it also includes some general information on things to do and places to go. It was the first time I travelled on my own, but as it turned out, travelling on my own did not mean travelling alone...

So it has been almost a month since the last entry.

The rest of the time in Singapore was OK. Met up with Eric, Ahock and Edward a few nights for some drinking. During the day I was hanging out with Joe, highlights at night were a night out at the Quay where we ended up at Hooters, and the Brazil vs. Spain five-a-side semi final which ended in a punch up.

Also had a number of ‘business meetings’ with Ahoc regarding Web based stuff; it seems that they are very keen on WAP and mobile phone stuff.

Then went up to KL (bad trip from Singapore, especially at the border) and spent 2 nights with Lian Ni, which was OK. She seems settled in her new yuppie life but I think she may still be a bit lonely as her two house mates are constantly not there. Saw a number of VCDs and spent a lot of time drinking coffees. Have to remember that both Eric, Ahock and Lian Ni really went out of their way to help me and I owe them a lot.

Then up to BKK to meet my parents. Been here for 4 weeks now. First week mainly going to the gym an playing tennis. Went to Sukothai with my parents which was OK.

Then Ally came. We had a difficult time at first, she was not very happy and I alternatively feel sorry and angry at her when she gets in that mood where she just looks sad and does not respond to anything I do or say. I worry about our future, as she is obviously not happy with me and perhaps it is the best if we split up, though we have come through a lot. I think what annoys me most is that I can not tell her everything, simply because she gets to jealous, and so I end up lying to her and that always ends in a bad way.

Anyway, we went to Kau Yai National Park with my dad, had a good time seeing bats, going on the night safari and staying at the Garden Lodge. Then had a few days in BKK where we saw the Grand Palace. Went to a Drive Thru Safari and a Tiger Park. Christmas we spent at home which was actually very nice. Parents still arguing about the same old stuff but a new addition coming form dad who now worries a lot about money as retirement kicked in a month ago. He should have stuck to MANU which he bought at $8, and sold prematurely at $16 (trading at $55 some weeks ago).

After Uli went, we drove down to Hua Hin to go to the beach for a few days. Stayed at the Royal Garden Resort, expensive but good, had a good time playing tennis and going for beach walks etc. Forgot again how much I like being lazy, how could I ever be trapped ina job I do not like in a country that is so bloddy cold in the winter?

New Year was OK, fancy party for $150 a head that was actually pretty bad. Music they played was terrible and the presenters very poor.

But after midnight we (Ally and me) went, somewhat pissed, down to the beach for a midnight swim. The water was incredibly flat a the stars out in their millions, and each time we splashed the water the oxygen bubbles looked like crystals, a very spaced out experience when you are drunk. We put our clothes back on and walked up the beach to a Thai party where we wanted to quietly sit down at the back and listen to the band, but unfortunately Alison fell over backwards on her chair and then grabbed hold of a table which came crashing down with her. Slightly embarrassed but Thais were only laughing and shouting “Happy New Year” in a slightly sarcastic way.

Currently I am back in BKK, Alison left yesterday. Sad to leave Thailand, friendly people, at Pet Shop, at the membership office in the club, at the hairdressers, just generally a lot of smiles and happy faces, I like it…
