We just returned back from our 5 day Safari. Words cannot explain what we have seen, but I will try my best. My first highlight was seeing the silhouettes of 2 waving people that I was sure were Laura and Kate. They looked fabulous and I could not stop smiling. They booked a Safari that would begin the next day in Lake Manyara. It was surreal that I was moments ago sitting in my office at work and I was now in a four wheel drive looking for animals in their own habitat. Our first encounter was a pack of baboons that were traveling down the road in droves. We laughed as they picked lice out of each other’s heads, stared at us, grabbed their babies and were off exposing their hideous backsides.

Next, we were able to watch an elephant and her baby feed from the trees. Further down the road were more elephants. The shocker for me was their ability to be so quiet, not easy for a 2 ton animal! One of the elephants passed by our truck taking our breath away. We headed to our campsite where our cook made us a wonderful meal and we settled in for the night. The next day we headed out to the Serengeti. Our guide, Godfrey, was very sweet and he was able to spy animals very far away. This day would bring numerous sightings of cheetah, lion and zebra. We spied a Lion, lionesses and cubs lounging in the sun. Unfortunately, many other trucks were there which ruined the experience a bit because people were talking. That night we slept in a bush camp. I was truly scared about that, but enjoyed hearing the sounds of hyena and lion in the night. I was in Africa and it was far beyond my expectations. The next few days were spent topping the prior days.
Each time we thought we could not possibley see something more spectacular……it happened! Witnessing a cheetah track down its prey, and give chase was beautiful. I did not see it take down its kill, but the tracking was spectacular. My favorite moment was spying a pride of lions (18 in total). They are beautiful, powerful and amazing to watch. The beginning of the Wildebeest migration was also quite a sight and the Ngorogoro crater will always be a spectacular memory for me. The African people are kind and curious and Tanzania is beautiful. The experience has been a once in a lifetime one for me and I look forward to our few days at the beach.
