Heading for Nairobi again we passed the equator again, I changed my Levis jacket for a nice ebony Rhino. My jacket was in a bad condition, I told the man I bought it in the USA, showed him it was made there. He got greedy at once and after some negotiation the Rhino was mine. The country changed rapidly, more hills and lots of banana trees around Nairobi, temperature was dropping somewhat too. I walked for some hours near Mt Kenya, time was too short to even think about reaching the summit. I enjoy life here, the people, the children, the animals, the food, the temperature; it has everything in it to become a major tourist attraction.

the second one at the left side, one Dutchy in the Belgium team. At the highest hut, as high as the summit of the Mt Blanc in Europe, I sleep really badly. Can't eat well too at two in the morning as the climb starts. I make it to the summit, please don't ask me how. I felt so bad during the climb. Drinking is important, my water bottle was frozen and I couldn't drink for 10 hours. If it weren't that important at the time being for me, I would have turned back. The view was not "to kill" but marvelous, I could look down on the Mawenzi, with it's 5100 m also one above the five thousand range. A lot of ice inside the crater and stunning temperatures in this side of Africa.

In Nairobi we traveled in town by Matatu, geeeeee fun!!! You don't want to know how many people they can get in this kind of vehicle. Standing next to your neighbor, sweating, little air to breathe, and loud music that makes you want to get of ASAP.The first Kili days were easy, just a walk over a muddy path. The landscape changed dramatically, no more monkeys and "slip sliding away", now instead a treeless landscape and far, far away the white cap of the Kilimanjaro can be seen. I had to walk through the giant lobelias to reach the 3700 m Horombo hut. Air is getting thinner here and the Belgium guy with the biggest mouth is talking less and less. I don't have to carry my own backpack here, my "personal porter" does the task for me. I don't like the situation but what can I do? Government regulations.

Now I had done what I wanted to do and I should go back. I didn't feel like going back at all. The only time I felt bad in these countries was the day I had to fly back to Europe. Africa has stolen my heart…. I know I will return… Africa changed my life in more than one way, I found out that there's more besides climbing mountains, I discovered the fun of traveling. And this is what keeps me going for years now, so much more to discover ………
