After my experiences in Belgium I must admit that I wasn't particularly excited about the prospect of two months in Italy and France. One month later I am still counting down each day before my flight to India, though I have had a blast here as well.

After Nice we had a few days to fill in before we headed up to our Villa we had hired in Provence, in the south of France. Mum decided that we should go to this interesting place called the "Carmague", so we set off, completely ignorant of what we were about to encounter. Mosquitos. Hordes and hordes of mosquitos. When we first entered the area, which was basically a massive swamp area that is filled with horses and flamingos (very random), mum left the car brielfy and a huge swarm of mosquitos entered. I got my map of Italy and started flailing wildly into the air, completely missing all of the mosquitos but managing to look absoloutely ridiculous. Mum must have thought I had gone mad when she got back in the car and i started swooping the air all around her with my map, barely missing her head a few times. After about 10 minutes of constant mosquito swatting the situation was under control, but I was on guard. The whole Carmague was the spookiest area I have ever been to, there is just something really really wrong with the place. On the way into the village we were staying in we passed ranch
after ranch filled with saddled white horses, but there wasnt a person in sight. Finally when we got to the village it was just as weird, there was just something wrong about the whole place, its impossible to describe.

After a walk around the town (with PLENTY of mozzie repellent on) we decided that I would go for a horseride and mum would go to some bull show that was on. We went out to one of the ranches and managed to find somebody in one of the buildings, who said she would take me for a ride. Fine. The ride was going fine, I had lots of repellent on, and was feeling confident on my horse. Then came the swarm of mosquitos. Wasnt my horse white a moment ago??? My jeans were COMPLETELY covered in mosquitos, so freaky, I started to flail, as I do whenever insects get too close. Suddenly my horse started bolting. It turned out that she was VERY sensitive to anyone moving their legs, and I had to keep my legs completely still. So after two hours of being a little too friendly with the mosquitos we arrived back at the ranch. I was just thankful that they hadnt attacked my arms or bitten me at all. Thank God for RID. However when I got home I realised I hadnt come out as unscathed as I had previously thought. My legs were completely pink and swollen all over. Turns out the mosquitos here can bite THROUGH denim... I must have got at least 100 bites on my legs and back. So it has been agony ever since. I knew there was something wrong with that Carmague place. We left ASAP.
