After my experiences in Belgium I must admit that I wasn't particularly excited about the prospect of two months in Italy and France. One month later I am still counting down each day before my flight to India, though I have had a blast here as well.


The journey continues...

and getting lost in all of the romantic little canals and alleys. Despite all of its charm Venice was still not completely satisfying - it was missing something. Luckily I know exactly where to find that missing something, and its only 19 days away!! 19 18 17 16 15...


Whilst in Venice I got to go to the Venice International Art Biennale which was very interesting. About 50 or 60 countries submit a selection of their most contemporary artists to exhibit there, so it is a very modern affair. Sometimes it was a little too modern for my taste, especially Germany's contribution where all of the staff in the room would randomly burst into song and where I was invited to become part of the "artwork" by engaging in a conversation about the market economy... Hmmmm. For the record my favourite artwork was from the Israeli exhibition.


After Venice we drove on to Milan for a quick and forgettable stopover on the way to the Italian Riviera. The Italian Riviera was stunning, we were staying in a tiny little town perched on a hill above the coast, surrounded by fields of grapes, tomatoes, olives, and some strange vegetable called a gourd. The idyllic countryside seemed to stretch for miles. Mum and I got to really slow down and relax there, and were able to escape the usual tourist trails.

on, and we began the journey up through the hills to the French border. Goodbye Italy, it was nice.


On to Nice. Nice, France that is. It all gets a bit confusing sometimes. I wasnt expecting much, basically just tanned wrinkly old people and little dogs. I wasn't dissapointed in that regard but it turned out to be a really cool city too. Mum and I snagged a little room with a balcony looking over a buzzing pedestrian walkway, so I spent most of the time people watching, with a chocolate croissant in hand of course.
