within the church, where is the biggest collection of the sea & sailing ships paintings on the world, with almost 70 art works.
Another world record art item is over there – a unique embroidery by Jacinta Kunic from 18th-19th century. She started making it when her husband left to the sea, on the Chinese and Japanese silk, with silk threads, and… HER HAIR!!! As she waited for over 20 years (!!!) her hair was growing gray. She never lived to see her husband, but her work remained in Perast in the church, and it holds a world record on the number of stitches – over 700 on the square centimeter.

The inside of the church is made of 68 paintings with themes of life from Jesus and the Lady Mary. It's a life masterpiece of the famous paintor from Perast, Tripo Kokolj (17th century), he is one of the greatest baroque paintors in the Balkans.

When the sailors left for the sea, they used to bring gifts to the church and Lady of the Rock when they came back, to thank for the safe return. They used to pray for many things, for the ships or parts of the body they lost, so they gifted silver plates with drawings of the items they prayed for. They are all kept in the hall of the church, on the walls, and there are about 2000 plates saved over there.

The island of Sv.Djordje is an old cemetery, between walls of an old house and pines. But it is perfect for swimming, so people come by sometimes with boats. We were there having a swim one day, and while we were there, we experienced something utterly beautiful – a rain while the sun shines still. Next to Perast is Risan, a town with the biggest amount of rainfall in entire Europe (and it is ironic, as Perast is the town with the biggest amount of sunshine, they are right next to each other!), so the rainy cloud which was low below traveled from there across the bay, and over the little islands we were at, it looked like a fog, and it brought rain. Imagine the smell of the rain, on a warm (but not hot!) sunny day, while you are in the sea on the miniature island, with no people around (we were the only ones beside the graveyard keeper inside the walls), and it starts to rain, as the sun shines still! We stood there on the shore, getting wet on the rain and keeping our feet in the sea, it was a bliss! Perhaps one of the most beautiful experiences in my life – the whole sensation of the scenery, views and scents, and feelings on your skin. So beautiful and enjoyable!
