After two & a half months travelling through Thailand and Malaysia, I was taking my time in Kuala Lumpur, resting before Sumatra. Got up late feeling a bit sleepy from a few beers the night before in an English style pub. I headed off towards Merdeka square to post my recent photos home, dressed in a now dirty grey T-shirt and faded orange shorts.

it a con in case they turned against me.
I picked up a total of 21 with my third card and knew from the banker that Mr Tom only had 20. I was 100% assured of winning and brought the odds up to US $1000. He replied bringing the odds up exponentially. At this point I was unsure of the rules and could not fold else I would have lost their money.
Given the signal of coffee I asked to make this our last game. Mr Tom opened his case again and removed what he said and looked like US one hundred thousand dollars and spent the whole lot on prettily coloured chips. He raised his stake on the table to US $80,000 and with beckoning from father and son I nervously signed to make the money on the table total to $160,000 US dollars!
Mr Tom would not turn over his cards until I could prove my ability to pay him. The father and I went into the bathroom for a private conversation. Back in the room we put the cards into two separate brown envelopes, sealing the back, signing them and locked them away in a safe that was conveniently in the corner of the room.
We all agreed to postpone the game two hours while we arranged the funds to Mr Tom. This is when I saw the point of the trick. We were set to win US $80,000 with my 30% share being US $24,000. From visiting his neighbour the father put US $20,000 on the table. Jolan said he had US $3000 in his bedroom. Now they wanted to know how much I could raise to show Mr Tom in order to claim our win.
This was the con. I had no money on me to steal they knew that. The idea was to use my credit card to borrow gold overnight, selling the next day at a loss or just simply robbing me once I'd got the readies. I refused to raise any money not wanting to sit through two hours of this hard sell. But I couldn't just enlighten them that I knew it was a con. I told them I had no credit left on my Visa account as I had not paid my monthly bill. They said
