Islands, islands and more idyllic islands. There are over seven thousand islands in the Philippines. The most well known, and one of the most beautiful, is Boracay island, situated just off Panay, Visayas. Borocay is just seven km's long with a stretch of the finest white sand, the most crystal clear turquoise water I have ever seen and hundreds of tall, picturesque palm trees.

we rode..all three of us. Now and then we would pass a motorbike with 4/5 people squashed on board. Imagine that catching on back home - five - more like twenty five.. and no brakes. A really funny thing the driver told us was that all the children shout 'hello Joe!', which actually means 'hello, Jew!'. Apparently this is because we have dark hair and because their stories in the bible depict westerners as the jews and them as the christians. So they all think we are american jews!

Tubigon to Boracay
From Tubigon we caught the ferry to Cebu(1 and half hours = 55p pp). From Cebu we caught a jeepney to Osmena Bvd, SM City, a large shopping complex, to book our ferry tickets, use the internet, buy books and eat pizza. The contrast is quite dramatic, the festering, potholed streets, ancient wooden shacks, dogs, poverty and the cool, pristine, air-conditioned, marble floored shopping centre with its Benetton, Mc Donalds and Pizza Hut. The first thing we did was book our tickets and then smash a pizza at Pizza hut(would have been the other way around if I had had any say). The ferry from Cebu to Iloilo City economy class is 370p pp. Economy is the only way you want to do it. Tourist class is in the middle of the boat and is apparently freezing with lots of noisy kiddies. Economy is on deck, which has a roof and tarpaulin that can be pulled down the sides to stop rain etc. Beds are steel frame bunk beds with plastic mattresses. Really comfortable and with free natural aircon.

"And now..we are settled on our mattresses on the ferry, it has cooled down slightly, Mark has stopped pestering me and is beginning his new book, the slovenians are playing a game with very strange looking, oversized playing cards and the locals are gathered in groups on the bottom bunks, chatting and eating their polystyrene speciality dinners a la ferry. Young girls are playing ...

Good day! I saw your site when I was browsing the Internet for people who love the Philippines.

My name is LAR and I'm a Filipino. I made a site to promote the beautiful island nation of the Philippines through pictures, and I am currently inviting anybody, Filipino or not, who visited/travelled the Philippines to help build my 'Photographic Profile' page.

If you have some time to answer a few questions and share some pictures of your favorite places in the Philippines, I will create a profile for you on my site. Through this, I aim to help more travelers, photographers and people get in touch with each other and publicly share information about the Philippines.

Please visit www.philtravelphotos.com for more information.

Thank you for your time and I truly hope to hear from you. Best regards!

Welcome to the beautiful Philippines!
