Islands, islands and more idyllic islands. There are over seven thousand islands in the Philippines. The most well known, and one of the most beautiful, is Boracay island, situated just off Panay, Visayas. Borocay is just seven km's long with a stretch of the finest white sand, the most crystal clear turquoise water I have ever seen and hundreds of tall, picturesque palm trees.

close to the beach, clean and comfortable fan rooms and an excellent 'balconied' restaurant. The island is small as in one can motorbike around it in about 5 hours, with a few swim stops along the way. Spent 4 days lazing around, enjoying the sun, sea and a multitude of banana shakes. On the first evening we went out for a swim about a hundred metres out, with no goggles or flippers. The following evening, goggles in hand, we got a huge shock to see the bottom of the sea covered in massive, black, spindly sea urchins. If we had put our feet down just once in the deeper water...There are loads of large, brightly coloured starfish some with 'horns' and others bright blue or orange.
What we did and suggested itinerary
Day one
Hire motorbike and zoot around the island(5 hours) - +-250pesos
Day two
Hire a boat and sail to marine island, Balicasag Island(half day) - quite good snorkelling
boat hire - 600p
flipper hire - 100p pp
What else?? Eat, swim, snorkel...zzzz... sigh!
Getting to the Chocolate Hills
To get there we caught a jeepney from Alona Beach to Dao, Tagbilaran and then a local Saint Jude bus to the Chocolate Hills Resort. A stop should be made on the way to see the worlds smallest monkey, the Tarsier and when the bus stops in Bicol, buy one of their speciality snacks from a seller out of the window - coconut flavoured sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. yumyum
On the way we started chatting to a young philippino guy. He was most curious about us and it didn't take him long before he got on to the subject of foods we eat, salaries and finally sex before marriage, babies etc. He really could not believe that we had been married for 5 years, 30 years old didn't have
