The lake of "Garda" is worth visiting more than once. It's narrow northern end reaches the Alps and it's wide southern end almost reaches the area of the river "Po". The length of the biggest Italian lake is 51 kilometres. On it's widest part it has go 17 kilometres and it's deepest part is 346 meters deep. In July 2002 we spent 5 days at the wonderful lake of "Garda". The many beautiful villages that are surrounding the lake and the nature are in deed very inviting.

The second largest village near the lake is "Riva del Garda" with it's 14.000 inhabitants. There you don't get the impression of being in a place mainly for tourists. The locals of the city didn't admit their city to be occupied completely. On the market, in the restaurants, on the beach and when strolling around in the evening, the language you mainly here is Italian. The "Torre Appnola" (see photo at the right), which is 34 meters high is the symbol of the city. Because of this symbol "Riva" has become unmistakable when shown in picture. The mentioned symbol was built at the beginning of the 13th century and was meant to protect the harbour.
In "Limone sul Garda" there are nice, sleepy lanes that invite for visiting and shopping. A place to relax completely. This is typical for Italy!!
"Malcesine", which is the only village of a certain extent on the lake's eastern shore, can - due to it's 3.600 inhabitants - be seen as small town. The narrow lanes of the old part of the city are leading a way up to the fortress. The one who is only staying down by the shores of the lake and not going upstairs doesn't get an incomplete impression of the atmosphere of "Malcesine". In the harbour it seems as if "Malcesine" consisted only of shops for tourists. Many pizza places that are situated next to each other are waiting for guests and in the lower parts of the lanes many, many shops with souvenirs for tourists can be found. But nevertheless, the atmosphere is great and it is great fun to walk around "Malcesine".
"Sirmione" has got 6.000 inhabitants and is placed perfectly. It is a peninsula that can't be missed. It is situated directly in the middle of the southern shore of the lake. "Sirmione" is one of the most popular places on the lake of "Garda"."Garda" with it's. 3.500 inhabitants stretches between the "Punta San Vigilio" and the "Rocca" in a wide bay. Locals and visitors love to go for a walk through the old part of town where no cars are allowed. Around the city there are also many attractions to be explored, for example the zoo with a park of dinosaurs and a safari park and the biggest adventure land of Italy, the "Gardaland".
