This castle is one of the most visited castles and fortresses in Europe. About 1.3 millions of people are visiting "Neuschwanstein" every year. The idyllic sitting of the castle is unique. On a nice day of fall, our way led us here.

We drove a way passing Austria, protected area of nature and along serpentines of mountains. We also passed the "Plansee", that was shining in the sun (see photo on the left side). On the other side the landscape reflected in the clear water (see photo in the right).
The way towards the castle was very well signposts and there were lots of parking lots. Reaching the castle the visitor can choose between several possibilities. A bus goes every 20 minutes or a horse-drawn vehicle can be taken or you can simply walk. We chose walking, but first of all we had a look for the hike path.
After having reached the top, we followed the signs to the "Marinebrücke". This bridge was built by Maximilian II. in the years of 1850. High above the canyon of "Pöllat" we could enjoy the landscape. Our reward was a terrific view. This scenery could have been taken out of a fairy tale. From the "Marinebrücke" the way led back and directly to the castle. During our walk we passed an observation point that offered a view to the castle "Hohenschwangau", the "Foggensee and the landscape.
The foundation stone of the "new fortress" was laid on September 5, 1869. First of all, the arch building was finished in 1873. In this building Ludwig II. has lived
for years. In 1880 the
topping-out ceremony could
be celebrated. In 1884 the
palace could be moved in.
On our way to the valley we once more had a fantastic view upon the castle. The forests of fall that were covered in orange and yellow and the shining sun were especially beautiful. Of course, it is not necessary to walk back, it is also possible to take the bus or the horse-drawn vehicle go get back.On our way back to Munich we stopped in the beautiful city of musicals that is called "Füssen" and we strolled through the old part of town. We especially liked the colourful houses. They essentially contribute to the unique and beautiful picture of the city.
