Portugal is a high hill with a white watch tower on it flying signal flags. It is apparently inhabited by one man who lives in a long row of yellow houses with red roofs, and populated by sheep who do grand acts of balancing on the side of the hill.<br />Richard H. Davis

I always wanted to see Portugal. And it didn't disappoint me. I fell in love with the narrow streets of Porto, funny trams in Lisbon, huge cats on the roofs, romantic beaches, incredible cakes, the best coffee and my favourite wine, which is Port wine.
Lisbon is sunny and windy. Hundreds of hills, old parks and two great bridges. Morning coffee tastes so good if you know that it was provided here straight from hot Brazil.
Nearby, Sintra's wooded hills and very special charm invite you to gaze at the marvelous manor-houses, situated within the grounds of old farms. Secret gardens, beautiful mansions, old castles. Everything is a blend of Gothic, Manueline, and Romantic influences.
And then there was Coimbra, very hot and demanding with its steepy streets. An old university and a hostel when some parrots could actually speak. It is so nice when an animal welcomes you with a creaky "Ola!".
But my favourite place in Portugal will be Porto. Known mainly for its trade in Port wine, which travels along the Douro river, Porto has been a multicultural trading center for a long time.Of course the most crowded part of the city is Vila Nova de Gaia, located on the steep banks of the Douro where Port wine lodges (where the wines are aged and blended)dominate the landscape. Tour and tasting were an incredible adventure. It was kind of extreme if you consider the fact that Port wine is actually very very strong. And the smell in the lodges...A mix of dust, old wine, wood, wet walls. Amazing!
And finally Lagos - with its amazing beaches. It is a tourist resort but at the same time Lagos was able to remain a charming fishing village. And believe me - all the beaches were completely and totally empty in the evening. So you know, they are a perfect place to spend some romantic hours under the starry sky. :) And the food was amazing as well. All kinds of fish, shrimps, clams. Mmmmmmm.....
