I've finally got internet up in my room! The tech guy LITERALLY walked away two minutes ago. And here I am, posting a new entry in my journal for the sole purpose of your enjoyment, enlightenment, and overall mental well-being. How thoughtful of me!
Luckily for you, I've been writing bits and pieces of this entry over the last couple of weeks, as well as compiling the necessary pictures. I hope it's not too descriptive or too inane; don't feel bad about skipping large chunks, anyway. Hopefully my next post will go into more detail about my classes, the university itself, and more people I've met.

Monday, July 4th, 2005
I walked away from a teary-eyed mother and a not so teary-eyed father in the Portland International Airport at about 1:15pm on Monday, July 4th. Aside from a few minor hassles-the electronic kiosk didn't let me register, the security guard misread my license and thought it had
expired, the other security guard insisted on going through my carry-on bag, I found out that I had to pick up my bags at the turntable in LA and re-check them for Australia- everything went smoothly on the first leg of my journey. I spent an uneventful few hours in the Cincinnati airport during my layover, listening to the Beach Boys on my computer and playing "pocket tanks."
After a short flight to LA (in which I saw the geography/landscape of the Western states for the first time), I reunited with my beautiful and brilliant girlfriend, Liz. She is finishing a brief stint living in LA, and luckily enough, was able to come to the airport to spend some time with her honey during his 5 hour layover. The evening with Liz was just what I needed.
