I've finally got internet up in my room! The tech guy LITERALLY walked away two minutes ago. And here I am, posting a new entry in my journal for the sole purpose of your enjoyment, enlightenment, and overall mental well-being. How thoughtful of me!

I got some dinner at a food stand, wandered around for another couple of hours, then navigated my way home on the bus lines. Ate some more dinner when I got back and met up with my friends. The plan for the night was to go to an RA's room for a little get together around 8, which we did. I met a bunch of other international students (three from Zimbabwe, one from Britain, one from Sri Lanka, a few other American students, and of course a bunch of Aussies) and we had a nice time. I could only stay to chat for a couple of hours, though, because I wanted to make a few phone calls- to the fam and to Liz. Phone card worked. Talked to Liz for about an hour and figured out from the money deducted from my account that it cost about 4 (Australian) cents a minute. Left a message on Mama and Daddy's phone in Maine, then realized that they had left for Savannah to complete the sale of our house and move the rest of the stuff up to Maine.
Monday July 11th:
More shopping, more people... made friends with an Italian guy named Francesca, though we all call him "Fra" (rhymes with Bra). Also met and befriended Anders, who is from Norway. He is a little shy but smiles a lot and likes to joke around with me. Also met a Canadian girl named Alex, goes to McGill Univ. but lives at home in Montreal-this is her first time living away from home! So we four (plus Tory from Kentucky) took the bus out to Claremont (about three kilometers westward, towards the ocean) to do some more room shopping. Fra wanted to get a heater, or as he says "an eeter" for his room; he says over and over again that he's FREEZING here. Also, Tory and I needed to get alarm clocks. I ended up getting some little speakers to play music from my computer, as well as some sticky tack and a hundred envelopes. We all hung out in Laura and Fra's rooms that evening (they both live in Hull wing, a dorm of mostly international students) playing cards and chatting.
