I've finally got internet up in my room! The tech guy LITERALLY walked away two minutes ago. And here I am, posting a new entry in my journal for the sole purpose of your enjoyment, enlightenment, and overall mental well-being. How thoughtful of me!

Mountains, Rocks, Volcanos, Valleys ... Hitch-hiking Trekking, Hiking, Climbing ... Cruises, Tours, Sightseeing ...

our UWA coordinator-a really nice lady. (On that topic, the whole Butler and OER staff was super friendly and knowledgeable, always going the extra distance to make us feel comfortable.) After that we had some free time, ate dinner, and had a dance performance in the multi-purpose room for our evening entertainment. The group: The "Sunset Dreaming Girls" (three adolescent daughters of a middle-aged guy and his wife-she was aboriginal, he white). They showed us a few traditional aboriginal dances, a few of their own creation, then they asked for volunteers to go up and learn a dance with them. You can guess what happened. I went up with a few other people and did our best to copy their steps. It was a riot. We went to bed early again, this time at about 10pm.

Friday July 8th (Day Three):
I woke up at 6:30 for shower and another morning walk. This time I went down to the clearing to say hello to our bouncy friends. I startled one of them and WOW, they can fly when they want to. It must have cleared twenty feet with
each hop. Attempted to take some pictures, but the distance between me and my nervous subjects, as well as the low light conditions, yielded only a few decent shots. Went up to breakfast. (The food was really good the whole time, speaking of; their vegetarian options were downright tasty, and as always I stuffed myself at breakfast time... lots of good cereal, toast, jam, fruit, etc. I must have eaten six or seven kiwi fruits the whole time I was there. Also, they provided us with yummy biscuits and granola-y bars to bring along as snacks for our day trips.) Spent the morning in another boring orientation info session. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself not to read any of the material that Butler sent me or any other background information on Australia or WA. That way, these sessions wouldn't have been so redundant and tedious. After lunch the WA kids set off on our big hike to the top of Mt. Abrupt. We made great time and were ...
