Hola from Puno, a port city of the infamous Lake Titicaca!
Thanks for all your emails and comments, I enjoy them so! And Steffi, I do believe that the mechanic we encountered on our travels from Minneapolis to my parent´s was named Tubs. Yes indeedy. Thanks for reminding me of that incident. Since the whole flight fiasco all has been well. Peru is lovely. The people are warm and friendly, the landscape is beautiful...and then there is MACHU PICCHU! I believe that is where I last left off....

shrouded in fog and rain, it only added to the mystery that surrounds this site. Our Lonely Planet guide aptly describes Machu Picchu: ¨For many visitors to Peru and even South America itself, a visit to the lost Inca city of Machu Picchu is the whole purpose of their trip. With its spectacular location, it´s the best-known archaeological site on the continent. This awe-inspiring ancient city was never revealed to the conquering Spaniards and was virtually forgotten until the early part of the 20th century. In the high season from late May until early September, the maximum limit of 2500 people arrive daily. Despite this great tourist influx, the site manages to retain its air of grandeur and mystery, and is a must for all visitors to Peru.¨

Machu Picchu was amazing, and we were fortunate to be spending the night in Aguas Calientes, as opposed to rushing through the site and hurrying back to the train headed back to Cuzco. The extra time afforded us the opportunity to see the lost city with fewer people...and the weather cleared, with both sun and blue skies breaking through the clouds. We sat in the terraced grass and enjoyed the site in all its splendor! This time gave us an opportunity to create an amazing video which I am sure you will all be privy to upon our return...let´s just say the stars are Marina and her side-kicks Mama Llama and Lolita (Lola) Llama. In fact we think it may even be You-Tube worthy.

So I haven´t addressed the whole altitude sickness factor. Well, it seems, you can blame anything on the altitude. We have...and continue to do so. Your head hurts, blame it on the altitude. Your stomach hurts, blame it on the altitude. You can´t sleep, blame it on the altitude. Lower back problems, blame it on the altitude. Not hungry, blame it on the altitude. Giddiness, blame it on the altitude. Missed flight connection, blame it on the altitude. Okay, so all of those except one are legitimate altitude ailments. And we have experienced them all...so lucky for us. It hasn´t stopped us though! We have been enjoying every second! The train ride back to Cuzco was no exception!! Not only did we have a train fashion show performed in the aisle of our car, but out the window we saw a phenomenal sight--a night rainbow. Simply unforgettable!!

Stay tuned for the next installment....
