We meet up at 6am to go get tickets for the bus at 9.30, for Ban Don Chai, a tiny village that acts as the jumping off point for the Gibbons experience. While me and Jim are waiting for the ticket booth to open we're joined by Graham and Rob who are also on the same Gibbons. They manage to squeeze to the front while me and Jim are squeezed back by a determined 5 foot old lady and a monk. 7 tickets bought and Rob, Graham and Hanah disappear off to the bank - open on Sundays in Laos, but you have to wait for the branch in the capital to turn their machines on 600km away.

the nature reserve. We're met by 2 guides who take us up into the forest. We're greeted by two monkeys one a little cheekier than the other. We given our intro to the project but we want to get straight onto the ziplines. Into treehouse one to check out our home for the next 2 nights and its a 4 story monster, with drinkable running water, a shower and a toilet with a difference. Where else does your shit go when your 150m offf the jungle floor - the jungle floor. Below the "long drop" is a very hungry pig and has put me off eating pork in Laos ever again. The zipline out of our tree house is about 200m long and quite fast. We're taken to have a go on each of the zips we can use and to check out Treehouse 2 (the honeymoon suite). Ali and Andrew are staying in no 2 and come back to ours for a cuppa. They head back just before dark. One of the guides has had a word in Robs ear to tell him we have a bee's nest under te treehouse and if anyone gets stung we all have to leave. So we're eating dinner as the bees wake and start

to annoy us. We're forced to abandon food and go into one of the mozzie nets only armed with Lao Lao and cards. The bee's are really trying to attack us as the 7 of us are huddled under the canopy!! They finaly go to sleep and we can crawll out into our own beds.

Next morning - 30th Jan (my birthday) - we're woken up at 6.30 to go hunt some Gibbons. Before getting out of bed I have a shot of Lao Lao just to warm myself up cos Helen hogged all the duvet from me and Hanah. We zip out and trek for 20 minutes before we find a bench. We sit and rest while listening to the Gibbons sing - sounds very much like a mix of an oscillator and cats on heat. We sit for a half hour and then off to the zip lines back for breakfast. Ali and Andrew zip by and tell us of their adventures last night - They took a red zip (the wrong way) and spend ...
