I arrive in Tanah Rata, the base for operations in the Cameron Highlands. Its a cool 15 degrees - actually freezing 15 degress. You may all scorn at that statement but when your in the tropics you don't expect to have to put warm weather clothes on. I'm met by Paul from Fathers guest house whose promptly says "Welcome to Sunny Cameron Highlands where every day it rains!!" Someone's happy to be here then. The dorms are something out of Dad's Army, former looking bomb shelters. At least there is some hot water.
I ain't getting on no god dam plane fool

I get checked in and put almost every layer of clean clothes I have on. Just as I set down for some dinner 2 car loads of Carol singers arrive with Chrimbo tunes pumping out from the stereo and Santa joins them. He's the most scariest Santa I've ever seen as its obviously a local guy with a white face mast on. He looks like he's straight out of Point Break. Excellent entertainment though. I start chatting to an English dude who's been here for a few days so I join him - Kev, Jason from Hawaii, Fion from Wales and Gordon from the borders. They stop selling beer at the guest house at 10 so we stock up and spend a few hours playing shithead.
Next morning me Jason and Kev go for a trek up the near mountain. We take easy route 5 - having taken an hour to find the start - onto 6 to the top, a little more challenging. We meet a local guide who tells us be carefuul going down on route 8 as its easy to get lost. Well no prizes for a guess as to what happens!! Its lucky that that the end of the trail leads to a waterfall so we have to follow the sound of the water through dense jungle to find our way back. Jason and Kev head on that night.
Next morning I go on the countryside tour really to see the tea plantations and get a decent cuppa. On route we are blessed by a visit to a rose garden - Mum hope your proud I actually went - then on to a butterfly farm. Not really what I'm wanting on a cold, wet morning at 9am, although the best part of that was the snakes, giant beatles and lizards. Next
was a strawberry farm with excellent shakes. The highlight was obviously the tour around the tea processing factory which lasted a whole 5 minutes before we were ushered off to the cafe and shop. I haven't seen this much tea since the last series of A-Team repeats on Bravo!!
Alls that is left to do is get the bag packed, drink more tea to keep warm and head on to Penang for Chrimbo.
MERRY CHRIMBO TO ALL THE LOYAL READERS. NOW HAVE OVER 5000 HITS TO THE BLOG!! I'LL KEEP WRITING THIS SHIT IF YOU KEEP READING!!
