Ahhhhh, its a breath of fresh air getting out of Singapore having spent a whole 14 hours there. I've a week to make it to KL so decide to stop in a historical town on route - Melaka. I was told that you could see the town in one day and move on the next but have tried to take things at a snails pace.... So I saw the town in 3 hours, didn't really want to visit the Musuem of Beauty, just need to look in the mirror in the morning!! I was intrigued by the Chitty Musuem but not enough to go in. On the bus from Singapore are two brothers from Kerry on route to Oz but wanted out of Singapore for a few days, so decided to tag along. Travelling is a piece of cake here compared to the touts and rip off merchants in Indonesia. Buses are luxery and the accommodation hawkers are polite!!
Not much goin on

We get a guesthouse sorted for a whole 9RM, about 1 pound 20. Basic but decent none the less. We have a wander into town and a big feed. I leave them in the bar and check out some of the sights around, like a replica ship of one the Portuguese sank off the coast in 1600 I think; small but interesting China town with the oldest temple in Malaysia, 1400's I think; and a small hill that has an abbo begging on the steps, god knows how long he's been there!! I spend the night just talking to a Lebbonese and Slovak dude about their travels. The Irish duo were meant to set off the next day and I decide to go to Melaka Zoo. There's all sorts of crazy creatures you'd never see in a zoo at home. I finally came across the Lesser Spotted Dear Mouse first encountered at Boker Hill, Cambodia. I was relieved to see it wasn't a mouse with a huge set of antlers!! All very interesting but just an excuse to waste some time. Went to the cinema to see Casino Royale (pish, especially when they cut the scenes that all Bond films are known for) and had a few beers with the locals in the hostel. Good craic and the old guys - 50 and 63 - were outpacing me for press ups and touching the toes (I can just about see my toes for my beer gut!!)
Off to KL for a couple of days to get my clothes washed and watch some footy, before the big trip to Borneo..Laters
