Me and the Amazon I busted up that amazon National Geographic style.

Journey In Journey to Wachimak: this is where the road ends and the transportation changes to canoe. By now, I was well into the jungle.

Amazonian Father This was Fransisco, aka "Papa de la Amazonia". His family was responsible for looking after me.

The Village This was Watchimak. A grouping of huts surrounded by jungle with a clearing in the middle.

Home My hut. They cleared a bit of forest and put it next to a small river. It was a 5 minute walk from the village.

The Vista My first outing. We painted up and headed to the vista. Pristine rain forest for as far as the eye could see.

The Vista We stopped for a rest on the way home.

Playtime The kids playing in their dugout canoe. This was the river we bathed in, washed clothes in, swam in, and played in.

Fishing One day they took me along to go fishing. We hopped into a large dug out canoe and drifted.

Fishing Earning my keep. The fishing roods were made of fresh fern stems.

Fishing This was our catch. This also was our dinner. It probably feed a large part of the village.

Tree Candy They asked me if I wanted fruit. I said yes. They climbed a tree and brought down this big snack. Tasty fruits every where you looked.

Walking home Heading back to my hut from the village.

Food This was one of the species of fish that lived in the river the village fished. I thought it looked prehistoric. They would grill it up and serve it whole.

Food- Morning Time They woke me up to show me their catch from the night before. Caught by the leg in a pre-set trap.

Food - Lunch Time

Food - Yummy I demolished that leg. The skin was thick and impossible to chew but i couldn't waste any food while i was there ... and they eat every part.

The Big Tree It was a 2 hour hike to get to this tree and it was well worthy of its title as the "big tree."

Bites Dont mess with the Amazon.

Bites Seriously, when they tell you to ALWAYS wear boots, ALWAYS wear boots.
