I’m Suffering from Gelato Withdrawal. . .

Finally, here is the much-awaited Italy Travel Blog. Due to high public demand, I’m putting out this one before the Chartres “1000th Anniversary of the Commissioning of the Cathedral” Medieval Festival that took place the week before I left for vacation, so stay posted for the Medieval Blog to come out probably next weekend. I really should write these blogs more often because I end up with so much to put in them they become very long - so here’s another long one, sorry!

had a quick lunch with Paolo's parents who were staying in their apartment and headed to the beach. It was certainly the first time I've ever been on the beach in my bathing suit in late October. After the sun went down it was time for my daily dose of gelato so we walked into town and ate not only gelato, but also some focaccia (amazing Italian bread that's particularly good in the town of Sestri). Followed that with some quality "Italian game show" time back at the apartment before we went back into town for a late dinner at a pizzeria followed by . . you guessed it . . round two of gelato.

Got to sleep late Sunday - the extra Day Light's Savings Time hour really helped there - before donning our "costumi da bagno" and heading to the beach for a relaxing day sunbathing on the sand. As Roberto had to work the next day, we drove back to Milan that night - the guys made the mistake of letting me control the radio station and since they played a surprising number of American songs, I was able to sing along as well (no comments Laura or Christine) - that will probably be the last time the cousins let me sit in the front again. :) Upon arrival in Milan we went in search of the classic Italian film "3 Uomini ed una gamba" (Three Men and a Leg). Ending up watching that after another delicious dinner of spinach and ricotta ravioli with walnut sauce - quite possibly my new favorite food (next to gelato of course). After a day in the sun and my belly full I tried my best to focus on "3 Uomini," but before I knew it I got caught by the cousins doing some head bobbing. Even the ice cream break wasn't enough to keep me awake so we called it a night.

Spent my last full day in Milan, the fashion capital of the world, shopping - it was probably good I hadn't gotten paid at this point or else my suitcase would have been a lot heavier on the trip back to France.
