Just outside of Tunis is a little village called Sidi Bou Said. According to the book, it is meant to be a really nice place to visit for the day. All little houses of blue and white in a Spanishy sort of way. Now in all of my time, I have never seen buildings in blue and white in Spain, but I have in Greece !!! So we decided we should, as we are tourists who live and die by the Lonely Planet, that we should go and take a look.
We jumped on the TGM, and off we went. The train went through Carthage, where we had been before. A thought did pass through my head, maybe we should get off and just wander through the ruins, because there is a nice overgrown old coloseum, but as we had been before, we stayed on.the train arrived, everyone jumped off, and we followed the masses up the road and into the village. On first observation, it was all white with blue splashed around in places. There were the usual sellers selling the same stuff we have seen in all the souqs, but the prices were higher and the sellers were pushing harder so we walked off. I had a look at the buildings and they didn't look very Spanishy to me, just your usual Tunis style, painted white and blue. Then it happened, an influx of older tourists, straight off of a coach. There wasn't just one but loads of them. It was then that we decided that we had walked around enough, 1.5 hours enough that is, and we would go back to Tunis. On the way out, we passed the carpark, and it was full of coaches. Thank god we left then, as there were more coming up the road.
I suppose it was a nice place, but not just us, especially for a full day, but at least we can tick that one off from the Lonely Planet. Personally, I think the day would have been better spent checking out the ruins again in Carthage !!!
