Personally, I have always thought of One Day Cricket matches as a game, you sit/lie on your couch, drink beers and get pissed as you watch. Yeah, I have been to a few over the years, but I can't say that they are my favourite form of cricket. Give me a test any day.
As there was another strike in Bangers, it was a little hard getting a prickshaw, but eventually we got one, and with me directing the fool of a driver, we arrived in time to see the toss, which once again we lost, and Thommo's pitch report. As Bangers had won the toss, they did the usual and decided to bat. The openers took off, and after two overs, 19 was on the board. Lee and Bracken then started to slow things down with a couple of wickets each. Brad Hogg picked up three, one to Johnson, and Andrew Simons collected the last two in his one and only over. Bangers all out for 197, on a pitch that was a batsman's paradise.
Our turn to bat, and after four overs, we had registered 11 runs. Gilchrist, sensing that we all wanted to go home early, opened his shoulders and exploded. Fours and sixes were flying everywhere. His fifty came up off of 28 balls, whilst Katich at the other end, just sat back and watched. It was starting to look like Gilchrist would get to his ton before Katich would get to 20, and after 10 overs, we were 0-90. Then Gilchrist, going for one to many big shots, was caught near the boundary for 76. Next over, Katich was gone for 18. Clarke and Symonds tried steadying the ship, but Symonds was trapped on the back foot for a duck. Ponting came and went the same way, whilst Clarke pushed the ball around, until he to lost his wicket. It was now up to Hussey and Hogg to bring us home, which Hogg was unable to help. It was getting edgy. For what was meant to be a simple target, they were making hard work of it. Lee came in to join Hussey, and Hussey nearly ran himself out. The Bangers supporters were going wild, thinking that another upset like Cardiff was coming along. But this was not to be, ass these two brought home the team and we won the game. Gilchrist picked up Man of the Match for his performance, and with that, that was the cricket all over for Chittagong.
Tomorrow we will be leaving, as we need to get back to Dhaka as we have to go visit the Indian Consulate again for another visa. Fuck knows why, but maybe, yes, maybe, I am a glutton for punishment
