Nearly four years ago, I walked into Borders bookshop on Oxford Street and found the Lonely Planet, Istanbul to Kathmandu. It has been six months since we left London, and this part of the journey is now complete. We have met loads of people along the way, and many are now part of this blog. And now, another part begins
Expecting a hangover, I rolled out of bed and did the only thing possible, I turned on the TV as it was day one of the second test between Aus v South Yarpieville. It was really hard packing, but I managed to do it and also see some of the cricket. We walked downstairs, met the Seppoes and said goodbye to Hari on the front desk. Got to the bus station, jumped on a bus, and we were off.
Arriving, as usual, 6 K's outside of the main town, we were mobbed by touts. We took the cheapest taxi, and went to see a hotel. Along the way, a traffic jam appeared as there was two days of elephant racing !!! I jumped out and went to see some other hotels. They were all a fucking rip off. The other three came back and said the same. A man came up from the Family guest House, the sign states typical hospitality. We asked what it was like and he said typical hospitality !!! We took the room !!! Food in the town was just as expensive !!! Basically, this is a one horse town. We are only here to see the local Rinos and some crocs, and you need to do a tour, which, by chance, are all expensive !!! We walked around, and watched the sunset. It was really nice. Pity we didn't have a hotel by the river..
Once we had done breakfast, we went to look at a hotel on the river. The rooms were shit, so we declined. It was day two of the elephant races, so we made our way to the track to watch some proper elephant carnage. The Nepali, stayed behind the rope, and we went over it.
