and watched the semis, and an Aussie elephant came in second. He had some awesome tusks, and all I could think of was shooting him, mounting his head and tusks on my wall and using his feet as an umbrella stand !!! The second semi, was won by a baby elephant. Before the final, there was a bullock and cartrace. It was pandemonium. Whilst taking some photos, an out out control one nearly wiped me out !!! The final started, and the littke baby ran away with it. The fucking Aussie elephant was nowhere to be seen, and the last thing that was heard of him, is that he was on his way to a glue factory !!! The sponsors were crying/laughing. We were interviewed by a local radio station, and I explained to him that we could not do this in my country as we had shot all of our elephants !!! The final race of the day were ponies and carts. After the previous events, this was a non-event, so we left and went for lunch. As usual, it was fucking expensive. After lunch, a fire was lit as this was the only way to heat hot water in this town. We kept it stoked, and for the first time since fuck knows when, we all had hot showers !!!
First thing in the morning, we grabbed a guide and went for an hours canoe ride down the river. It was really misty, but we did manage to see two crocs. The birdlife on the river was pretty good as well. We jumped out and trekked back and saw some Common Languers and some monkeys. Along the way, we saw another two crocs, but what we were hoping for was a rino. We did see some fresh steaming shit, and a couple of footprints, but that was it. After three hours, we went back, had a quick lunch and then jumped into a Suzuki Sierra/Samurai/SJ40. This was meant to be a jeep safari, but the way we were taken, any normal car could have driven on this dirt road. Eventually, we arrived at a lake, and there were loads of crocs sunbathing. We moved on, and a wild boar crossed in front of us, but no rinos. We drove until we reached a crocodile farm and as we drove up to it, a couple of monkeys jumped out to say hello. We jumped out, and walked through the enclosures. The small ones were good, but they would not let us near the big ones. Around the back, were a couple of rinos, which had been brought in when they were young as their mothers had been killed by poachers. They were really leathery to touch and amazing to see up close. We walked around the back of their pens and there was another enclosure. In it was a tiger, which had been brought in as a cub, because it's mother had been shot. It was really sad to see it like this as there was not much room and it was just pacing back and forth. We left it doing this, and we jumped back in the car. Along the way back, we finally saw what we came into the park to see. Rinos. There was a mother and baby, but they were in the grasslands so I was unable to get a photo, but at least I saw them.
So, tomorrow, we leave Nepal, and head back into the shitfight that is India. We have had loads of fun, and met some good people along the way. We both would like to come back and do another trek, but we will have to wait and see, as there are so many more countries still to be discovered. And just for you Ryan.
It's on the blog !!!
