We caught the train from Rome to Ancona. As we are tight, we decided to go on a regional train, all second class. We jumped on, and found the air conditioned carriage. The ticket inspector came through. The Italian couple told him that we should not be sitting there as we are tourists. He told them basically to FUCK OFF !!!!! We jumped on a ferry, and the following morning we arrived in Split
Split
Wewere nabbed by a local and lead away to his house as this was going to be our residence for the next couple of days. It was an excellent choice. We had a view of the city and could see all. Straight away, we decided to hit it hard. We went straight to Diocletian's palace. It's not actually a palace anymore, but it used to be. The outside walls are still there, and so are bits of the inside and the underground as well, but now the locals have built there houses inside. Thats how big this place is !!!!! We walked around, into the tunnels, saw some locals doing traditional dancing. We then climbed the tower to get a different view of the place. Actually, it was quite small, so we had pretty much completed the city in a day. To celebrate the occasion, we bought a bottle of the local wine. As the sun was going down, we sat drinking it. It was actually quite horrid, so we decided we wouldn't do that again !!!!!
Next day, I had read that there was a Jewish cemetery behind where we were staying, so being part Jew, I wanted to go and explore. We climbed a hill, and there it was. But it was locked up !!!!! We had a look around the outside and discovered that if we went further up the hill, we would find more old churches built into the side of the cliff. So we were off. We made it to the top, and the road could go left or right. The road to the left was going down and looked wrong, while the road to the right was going down and looked wrong as well. We went right. Found some awesome lookouts and took more photos and eventually found that we were back where we had started !!!! I was slightly pissed off, our water was running out, but Lucy wanted to go back up again. Once again, we climbed the hill. We ran out of water, our tongues were getting fatter, but nothing was going to stop Lucy achieve her goal of finding these churches. Up at the top, we went left. We started going down. A little further along the way, there they were. There wasn't much to really look at, but they were slightly special to say the least. We went back and died. Then it happened. For reaching our Mecca whilst in Split, the local authorities, awarded us a firework night. It was good, but that was all to be reported on in Split as the next morning, we were going to go to Hvar, home of the rich of Craotia and rumored to be the place to be seen. So obviously, this place was for us !!!!!
Hvar
We made it to Hvar, and the town is quite small, so 5 minutes later, we had basically seen it all. There is an old fort overlooking the harbour, which we did have a look, and we managed to grace Croatia with our bodies as we finally went swimming. But you can only walk up and down a 50 metre promenade a number of times, so one night was enough.
So hopefully, my next report will be coming from downtown Dubrovnic
Until then, you know what.
