The Story
A friend of ours from Australia, Zonth, was skiing in Italy, and when he said he had five days spare, we all quickly bought some tickets from RyanAir, to meet in Spain as he had never been there
Girona
Lucy and I flew in and had a look around the old part of town as we had hours before Zonth arrived. Like most places in Europe, the new city was shit, but the old city was amazing. Very old, and very amazing. Cathedral was good and then it was time to meet up. We grabbed Zonth, and went for dinner, Rioja, before retiring for the night
Tarragona
We drove south to Taragonna as it was the old Roman capital of Spain, so it was there to be seen. We parked the car, grabbed a room, and then hit it hard. The Amphitheatre was good, the old hippodrome area was huge, including the towers that were still upright. One of the towers was covered in chicken wire, to stop pigeons from nesting, and it had managed to catch six of them, which were then left to slowly decay away. A few more ruins before we had a couple bottles of Rioja again for dinner
Zaragoza
A colleague at work, Maxi, who is from Spain had stated that Zaragoza is a good place to visit. As there was an old Roman aqueduct to see along the way, we decided to go there. Now the map says to go one way, the Lonely Planet, says another way, while a chain smoking girl in a servo, said something different. So, after driving around in circles for an hour, we headed for Zaragoza instead. Here is a cathedral which used to be a mosque, right down to the four minarets. There is a pillar which has something to do with the big V, or Mary as some people know her as. Very disappointing. So we climbed a minaret, came down, jumped in the car, with Zonth breaking his virginity for driving on the wrong side of the road and on the wrong side of the car, and hit Barcelona. Found our hotel and had dinner. Rioja
