I safely arrived in Bangkok after a comfortable journey from Penang through penisular Thailand. The mode of transportation chosen a train's sleeper car, a new experience for me, and I must admit, quite comfortable. At about 9 all the seats are converted to bunk beds, and so I slept away about 10 hours of the trip. Also, I had company the whole way, as I traveld with a friend I met in the Cameron Highlands, so it was nice to have somebody to chat with.

After arriving in Bangkok, we hopped on a bus to the notorious Kho San road looking for accomodation. We stayed just off this reknowned backpacker haven, and I must admit it was quite a let down. Unsuprisingly, there was quite a few westerners in the area . . . and endless number of Thai people trying to sell just about anything and everything to us. The worst of all, was that many were there to drink away their time in Bangkok. I have nothing against a couple of drinks, but whenever I had breakfast there was always somebody starting the day with a drink (or three). Think Wisconsin Dells, with more alcohol.
After that rant, before I get too self rightous . . . after booking a room, I mainly just lounged around and read. As the sun was going down, my cohort and I decided to go out to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a Guiness at a nearby institution having a St. Patrick's Day party. We enjoyed our Guiness, and another drink, we were about to go when we struck up a conversation with the guys next to us. Turns out they were Irish . . . needless to say the night became fairly interesting after that and I ended up going home much later than expected.
The next morning after a big breakfast, I headed to downtown Bangkok. After picking up my race number, I went on a self-guided tour of Bangkok and saw some traditional Thai houses amongst other things. My biggest accomplishment of the day was not getting lost the whole time.
