An Adventure Begins . . .

Hello All,
I am new to this format, but am using it as a platform for my friends and family to follow my trip, so that I don't spam their e-mail accounts with lengthly stories from my travels.
The story begins,
I touched down safely in Singapore, almost exactly 24 hours after taking off in Chicago. For some reason the flight took me over Canada, hugged the coast of Alaska, crossed the Bering Strait and follwed the Russian coast down to Japan. Not exactly the most direct route, but it did provide nice scenery, much different than what I am currently experiencing. I landed in Singapore at 1:00 am and proceeded directly to my hotel to crash.
However, before leaving the airport, I had the interesting experience of helping a Chinese man, who spoke as much English as I Chinese, approximately none, fill out is disembarkation card. Ironically, the disembarkation card is in English, while his passport had Chinese and English, as such, I became the go between for what went were on the card. This worked well, until I was stumped on how to pantomime "place of residence." Fortunately, an airport employee intervened and assisted in finishing the task.
The next morning I awoke at 8:00 am (somehow I managed a 12 hour time zone jump, without any jet-lag), upon finding every hostel room in Kuala Lumpur full for Friday night, promptly changed my plans and extended my stay in Singapore for a day. So, I spent the morning just strolling around downtown Singapore, foregoing sunblock, and promptly getting sunburned forehead and nose.
Other than that, a pleasant and laid back day. I catch a bus in about an hour to Kuala Lumpur.
Adios,
Peter
