Antwerp or Antwerpen, if you are a Flemish person. It was quite amazing that we had never been to this part of Belgium, so we jumped into our car and headed off. Yes, a car. The Chookmobile, which had been a big part of our life, was now gone. We had a B&B booked in the Jewish quarter, so this would be our doss house for the time being.
1st day) We walked the city and saw the Peter Paul Reuben’s house. An artist of note. The cathedral and the diamond district. Antwerp is meant to be the capital of Europe for diamonds.
2nd day) We drove to Delft, home of Dutch pottery. Here we climbed the steeple in the Oude Kerk. Great view of the city and then I found a coffee shop. Can’t help myself really. Next was Rotterdam. We only came here because Jackie Chan had filmed Who Am I partly here. We saw all the buildings in use during this movie and we did a tour of a rectangle house. I would love to live in one of those.
3rd day) A Kiwi mate of ours, lives in Brussels, so we met him on the motorway as he was riding to the beach. We had to meet a mate of his who had a Ducati. I have a Ducati in Australia, so the owner offered me a ride. Maybe it was the glint in my eye, but Lucy asked me if I wanted one. Could I say no. Well I did, but the thought remained in my head. We hung out and had dinner in Brussels, followed by some beers
4th day) We left Antwerp and drove slowly back towards Calais. If going this way, all tourists stop off at Brugge. Having been there 3 times before, we only stopped as we needed/wanted to load up with chocolates. We did this and then arrived in Calais. Having learnt from previous experiences, Lucy crossed into Dover, and once again we were directed in for a closer examination, and as usual, they found nothing that was of any concern to them.
One day, I am going to have to get my hair cut !!!!!
