There were 18 people all together including Glenn the driver and his wife Jewels. We had to meet a Kiwi couple in Luxor and pick up another guy en-route to Luxor. Its funny how first impressions of people tend to scar you for life. They either make or break a friendship. There was this Kiwi girl who I had named Huggy, well her name was Amanda, Amanda hug and kiss. We were all getting into the back of this truck, when she opened her mouth and the words came out, “I’ve left all my travellers cheques in the safe at the hotel”. It was blowing a sandstorm and she had to get a cab there and back, which meant we were now two hours behind schedule. Biatch. She arrived back and we set off. Here we were, sitting in our own little groups. Nobody knew each other and there was a reluctance to mix at this stage. We drove and we drove, heading towards Luxor. We drove until the evening until we came to Hurghada, where we got a hotel and stayed the night on the roof with the rats and others. Into the markets for breakfast with a few others, and then back onto the truck. Down the road we picked up another Aussie guy and we continued on our way to Luxor. Recently, there had been some attacks on the road so we had to go in a convoy. As we could go no faster than 90 kilometres, we were rather slow. As we drove, one of the girls realised she was going to be the first to join the RB club. She hit the buzzer for an emergency stop, Glenn stopped, this girl jumped out, ran to the edge and dropped her pants. The guards then pulled up and jammed a gun into Glenn’s face demanding that we start moving. He explained what was happening, and after a while we continued on our way to Luxor. Upon arrival, we pitched our tents, showered, dinnered and hit the sack as we had another early get way the following morning as we were going to Aswan.
