I dont know if I'd mentioned that I'd moved to another backpackers further down Grey st, 'All Nations', anyway it seemed really relaxed and I've got chatting to a couple of friendly girls: a German called Simone and an English Julia. We talked about our thoughts about seeing The Penguin Parade on Philip Island - a little tour that sounded amazing, especially since Penguins are my most fave animals and the thought of seeing 30 or so of them emerging from the water sounded wicked! Trouble is, we were all broke, but had spotted another guy in the hostel who had a car and thought we could do a DIY trip so managed to rope him into driving us all the way up there for the day!

Well, we got there to find that it would cost us $15 each to stand in a purpose built platform on the beach to see the penguins that came to shore at 7:15 on the dot every night.
FIFTEEN DOLLARS to see nature!!!???
After weeks and weeks of scrimping and saving, living like a students and surviving on 49c supernoodles, $15 (6 pounds 50) was just too much for us. I know, I know, it's not a lot, and now I wish we'd just coughed it up, but in our infinite wisdom, we decided against it. The attempt to gatecrash the beach didn't work, as the roads were closed and fences had been errected and even with my newly aquired 'temporary fence dismantler' skills, we were beaten.
Still, we had a lovely day and lots of laughs and got some great piccies of the fantastic shore-line.
