A 7am start saw Team A laboriously check, pack and ready our trusty 4WD ready for 2 days and 3 nights on the Dingo-infested sand island - Frasier.
We'd been briefed, mentoured and knocked into some sort of safari-shape by videos, talks and demos and were finally ready to hit the road. Nobody else wanted first drive, so I stepped up, jumped behind the wheel and started her up with a tractorous roar.

There were 3 other teams setting off at the same time and rougly 8-12 other 'Dingos', (the tour company), crew already out there exploaring the island. The 4WD was a bit of a beast, what with a roof-rack jam-packed with 3 days worth of food, 6 crates of beer chillin in the Eskies, 5*4l casks of Goon white wine, sleeping bags and tents for all 11 of us. All this together with reduced tyre pressure for sand-driving meant it felt like I was 'in-control', (in the loosest possible sence), of a huge blancmange on wheels.
Our team consisted of 3 Irish lads (Riley, Ross and John), and one Irish lass (Katie), 1 Sweed - Henrich, an English couple - Del and Sofie and 3 Northern lasses - Jules, Lorna and Caroline - (Hurrah for northerners!). We were only 10mins down the road before we had to stop, lock the front tyres and switch to 4WD mode. It was such fun, revving the hell out of this huge diesel monster, tyres spinning and spraying sand in all directions. A short ferry took us across to Frasier where we were free to adventure away to our hearts content.
Lunch, cold beers and a short walk took us to Lake Makenzie - a stunning Sapphire-blue fresh-water lagoon, bordered by Daz-white powdered sand. There's no better feeling than fresh-water swimming after so much salty sea and we spent ages chilling, playing keepy-uppy and getting to know each other before finding a camp ground, pitching the tents and chowing down on a gorgeous steak meal.
Unfortunately, as soon as I'd arrived at Rainbow Beach I'd come down with a bad stomach bug, probably bought on by food poisoning which had given me the Delboy&Rodneys and meant I had no appetitie and couldn't drink more than a few beers without feeling sick, :( , but we had fun, and drinking games which powered us through the chilly evening.
