The following is an account of my "working vacation" to Barbados, where I am assisting Dr. Hans Appelt of Corning Community College (who is in Barbados on a Fulbright Grant/Scholarship) and is working to assess, suggest improvements, and spend a semester teaching at Barbados Community College.

13 Oct 2003 - A Barbados monday.. I woke up and was out to the beach by 6:20am.. some of the usual "Beach Boys" as they are called were already awake (with the exception of the guy sleeping on the table in the outdoor restaurant).. must have been some "Moonlight Meditation" they had last night. Water was a bit cooler, but no less refreshing, and I just lounged in the ocean for some good amount of time, watching the clouds and people randomly walking on the beach. I could tell a storm was coming- the thunderheads were starting to accumulate and were of the menacing "I'm going to rain" greyish colour. The clouds out in the ocean all sort of merged into this gray mass as it came through, and a very pronounced storm front was seen. Although it didn't rain until a while later, it was quite an impressive array of dark-grey clouds. The ocean was a bit less transparent today... a bit more windy (obviously due the weather), and the tide tugged a bit stronger.. better waves too I might add.
On the way up to BCC we were met by some pretty backed up traffic. Long delays trying to get through the RoundAbouts, cars backed up even on the highway... but it was a strangely pleasant experience, as even though it was deadlocked traffic at some points, with cars pointing every whichway (those RoundAbouts really allow some interesting situtations to occur).. but the one neat thing is that nobody was honking their horn, there was no swearing or cursing at the other drivers, etc. as one might expect from certain areas in the US. It was very tranquil.. everyone had to get to their destination, but they knew there was no need to rush things.. they would get there eventually. Even though I say "backed up traffic".. it never felt like we stood still.. we still moved along at a pretty good clip regardless.. And another good thing- thanks to the backed up traffic, I got to take a nice shot of a RoundAbout... in fact it was the only picture I managed to extract from the tiff,
