Elin's taking a quick break while I update her friends and family on our travels together. For those of you who are unaware, Elin and I found each other courtesy of this lovely website and came together upon my arrival in San Jose.

Hi all,
Elin's taking a quick break while I update her friends and family on our travels together. For those of you who are unaware, Elin and I found each other courtesy of this lovely website and came together upon my arrival in San Jose.


The morning of the 16th of April, she came up to me at a dark, sketchy bus terminal in the Coca-cola district of San Jose. An exchange of photos assured me that I had the right person. We were very glad to find each other, as someone had launched into a scam whereby they were trying to convince her that our bus had already left, without us. Turns out that he was wrong, and once we realized that it was still around, we were on our way. After checking our bags, we breathed big sighs of relief as the sun came up over the mountains.


On our way out of the city, we saw pinks, yellows and some orange. The sun started to warm us up, and we knew we were in the right place. Descending the Cordillera Talamanca, we welcomed warm rays on our faces. As anyone who has travelled to Latin America knows, the big cities are on the plateau. The fun places are down the ranges, on the outskirts of mountains and seas. Costa Rica is no different. We noticed changes in vegetation, and dress, as we continued to pick people up from the side of the road. As is customary here in Latin America, people need just to hail the bus with a wave, and everything comes to a screetching halt. The men and women who came onto the bus wore progressively thinner, and less, clothing.


By the time it got really hot, we were among pineapple plantations and banana fields. Realizing it was still early morning, we cheered at the many hours we had left to go before we could rest. The Central Valle de Diquis flew by our open windows, and the rivers we passed got progressively smaller, but with bigger river-beds. A sure sign of rainy season!


Final destination in the bus was Palmar Norte. We could hear ...
