... I had intended a stay here of several weeks.. and now, only a week or so after my arrival in Oz, I am ready to leave, gladly packing my bags for departure tomorrow... So, the story goes...

... I had intended a stay here of several weeks.. and now, only a week or so after my arrival in Oz, I am ready to leave, gladly packing my bags for departure tomorrow... So, the story goes:

-- SYDNEY --

...Having had no inclination to come to Australia, I now know why - every one of the high expectations I held of Sydney have been deflated like balloons at the end of a great party (the party being NZ)... Admittedly this may be an unjust evaluation given that I only landed a few hours ago but my gut feeling is to go... If there is anything at all that I can find to smile about, it is the cute elderly couple from the French Polynesia that I shared a shuttle with. Unable to speak English, I found myself in the bizarre situation of greeting their friends at the airport, with me, centre ground, as acting interpreter! It was amusing and at times awkward but returning to Franco-linguistics is always a sweet familiarity...

...I had hoped that the morning would bring with it more impressionable happenings. So, whilst my head tries to make sense of all the confusion and my logic loyally plays its role, my intuition asserts that a premature if not immediate departure is desirable... Sydney, being the cosmopolitian hub that it is, ought for me to have massive appeal, but for some reason... it doesn't... Time to get busy... With a throbbingly painful ankle, I hobble into the city, eventually locating the medical centre. Informed that I required a Medicare card, off I went again, like a duck trying to wade through river rapids, I waddled amongst the crowds of lunchtime rush to find the Medicare centre. Once obtained, I returned back to the clinic and into the experienced yet unsympathetic hands of the doctor, a tall, dark man, bearing an extremely sincere if not superior attitude. Impressed by my LSE graduate status, ...
