... I had intended a stay here of several weeks.. and now, only a week or so after my arrival in Oz, I am ready to leave, gladly packing my bags for departure tomorrow... So, the story goes...

I felt sick. I had eaten too much and slept too little. Still, I had no time for self pity. The airport shuttle was due to collect me at 7am. I waited in the rain until it arrived. Catching a VirginBlue flight was utterly painless, and easier than catching a bus. Arrival, check in with name only, receive a printed receipt and take a seat in the empty aisles. Sweet. I slept. Of course. From New South Wales to Queensland, we arrived in Brisbane 1.5h later, gaining an hour in time difference...Okay, now what? I looked around at an overcast sky shadowing the city with grey. Nope. What I needed was far more therapeutic - sun, sea and sand. I headed straight for the info desk and booked myself on a bus to...Byron Bay. Caught a train to the city. Got off at the wrong stop. Trudged, all 17kgs and the weight of stress hoarding my back. Tired and disillusioned, I responded to the friendly smiles of the platform attendant: "excuse me sir; where am I?" He laughed. I wasn't joking. I actually had no idea where I even was. Informed that I was now in Brisbane city and needed the next train to Roma St, I waited some more. Once there, I made it just in time for the bus to Byron Bay. Guess what I did once on the bus? Without any conscious effort at all, my eyelids dropped and I was out. In any case, the highways held nothing even remotely interesting to keep me engaged...

...Jolted awake. Back aching. Freezing col. Sore throat. And yes... tired. Very very tired. Stumbles out of the bus in my air-conditioning protective layering of of hooded jumpers into the hot gold coast sunshine. Got to Main Beach hostel, showered. Out. Walked into a shop called 'Pure'. They offered a range of services including massages. Hm, my body felt like an overused punch bag and the thought of a massage sounded as good as a huge tub of ice cream on a hot summers day. There was an appointment available at 5pm. That was in ten mins. I took it. Left in the experienced
