NB. Lack of photos owing to the wonderfully frustrating temperamental antics of my new Sony camera. Sorry.


... I had intended a stay here of several weeks.. and now, only a week or so after my arrival in Oz, I am ready to leave, gladly packing my bags for departure tomorrow... So, the story goes...

and making some comment on my qualifications, he sent me over to x-ray. With me being unable to locate this department bearing the sign 'x-ray' at the front, I'm sure any dillusional assumptions about my level of intelligence were soon rectified... As the receptionist informed me that this extra service would cost me $50, that was the least of my concerns. My ankle, having been bent around by the doctor in his examination was now in agony and I could barely walk. She hands me a letter and tells me to take a seat. I look down at the piece of paper in my hands: "This is to confirm that Asha Patel requires todays service on an immediate medically necessary basis"..A wave of anxiety surges through and settles in my stomach. Things seemed to be on a steady downhill slope. I smile. What else to do...?!

...They say travel is full of new experiences. Well, I'd certainly never sat on an x-ray bed before. Once the slides had been taken, told to take them back to the doctor, I hobbled once more across to the surgery. The doc informed me that as he couldn't see any visible fractures, it was probably a torn ligament. Hm, probably. Gotta love the accuracy. Got my prescription, re-claimed $30 from the MediCare Centre, and find myself here, eating sushi at a cafe called 'C'est La Vie'. Indeed...

...Returned to hostel at 1am somewhat alleviated from the days strains, my calls for pain-relief coming from Colm rather than the presicribed medication. Thanks dude. Followed docs orders by wandering round the city all day (well, I was after all in Syndey, and a sight of one of the world's most photographed scenes couldn't go a miss). So yes, went to Circular Quay to view the Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House - where I sat by the quayside, watching the night fall, and the city skyline illuminate the scene...

...Colm collected me in the pouring rain this morning, to carry my 17kg backpack to Base Backpackers. ...
