Fed up with after not even two years of employment I decided to quit my job and go travelling for a few months. This travelogue is a personal account of the trip, but it also includes some general information on things to do and places to go. It was the first time I travelled on my own, but as it turned out, travelling on my own did not mean travelling alone...

Annapurna Circuit
Only 2 days to go to Thorong La, highest point of the Annapurna Circuit where I have been struggling along for the last couple of days. With me on this trek are 3 English girls I have met at varies stages of the trip. Caught up with Vicky who I met in Goa again in Pokhara after trading emails for a couple of days. Unfortunately Dominick and Jane were a couple of days late and we had to start without them.
Vicky met Joe on the bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara and asked her to come along, so the three of us set of some morning on the local bus to get to Besisahar. Trip was interesting as bus started driving while Vivky and I were still on the roof roping on our backpacks. Once on the road the bus became full pretty quickly and once again we went on the top where we met a young Australian couple who we would bump into regularly over the next few weeks. Also met Kate who was about to start the trip on her own so she too joined our little group.
First couple of days were pretty tough, my pack was again to heavy and there is a lot of up and down while the sun is burning hard. Accommodation is pretty basic, but good enough and at 10Rs it is hard to complain really. Food consists of rice, pasta and potatoes with various combinations of egg, garlic, tuna and cheese. Scenery is pretty good, walking along the scary looking Marsyandi (how do they raft it?), looking up to the high mountains.
Group is getting along well, but girls probably a bit closer to each other, me usually walking ahead a bit. Keep bumping into the same group of people, but apart from the Australian couple and an English guy called Nigel not really forming any close contacts.
Scenery changes after turning west at Pharapani, European like pine forests replacing the more tropical landscapes encountered so far. Some gorgeous views of mountains and I am taking lots of pictures. Path goes steadily upwards, climbing several 100ms every day, but we are taking it easy, enjoying the scenery.
First health problems are beginning to appear. Joe hurt her ankle while tripping over a stone, Vicky has a bad knee and Kate has some Gardia symptoms, me doing fine up to that point, but starting to worry about the pass.
Best view yet was from a low pass between two valleys, looking forward the valley with Omreh airport in it and the airstrip clearly visible in the distance, and looking back the valley with the impressive satellite shaped mountain face.
Stayed at Omreh Airport Hotel, really nice as we had dinner by the fireplace with the family.
