was just perfect, so we spent most of the time hiking along the coast. Before the end of the day we got to Soldotna, where we hoped to charter kayaks for Kenai river rafting.
The night was one of the coldest, at 10am there was still ice on a tent, even though the sun was shining brightly. Because of the weather and extreme rudness of a lady in kayak rental we gave up the idea.
Instead we made overnight hike along Skyline Trail in the area. Nature was full of colours, it never rained and was neither too cold nor too hot. Well I guess it's never too hot this part of the year down in Alaska. A perfect hike with stunning views over Cook Inlet, Kenai Mountains and Alaskan volcanos. Some time before the sun set we decided to make shortcut, some 3 miles long maybe. And this turned to be the worst decision of the year, probably. Mother Nature made a mistake and instead of tundra we faced Amazon jungle! Trees and bushes were everywhere, simply impossible to pass. We got stuck for a night inside this crazy jungle, and it took us 6h to cover the distance of 3 miles. Memorize: make no shortcuts ever again!
Another two days we spent in an area of Girdwood hiking in Chugach Mountains. This time the weather was again typical Alaskan. Insted of rain however we got some snow. Well, after all it was end of September so high time for the winter to start in Alaska. Termination dust already covered the peaks, two weeks later than usually, people said. We were lucky to get this extra two weeks anyway.

Days 48-53. Girdwood to Anchorage (60km) to New York City to Warsaw, Poland.
A ride from Girdwood to Anchorage was one of the most crazy ones. A guy was driving very old pick-up which he rebuild so that now it runs on... french-fries oil. No joking, the smell of french fries was hardly bearable. He gets oil for free from chinese restaurant in Anchorage. At first he needs to heat up a tank with gas little bit, so for first ten minutes or so he has to burn regular gas. He was really suffering because of this ten minutes. 'I feel like I'm robbing myself!'. Several months ago he moved to a cabin. Before, for 12 years he had been living in his volkswagen. Alaskan winter inside volkswagen is something I surerly wouldn't like to try!
We spent three days in Anchorage. A hike along the coastline to Point Voronzov was interesing thing to do. Another good point was Anchorage Museum with expositions about the history of the state and photo gallery about the life of Eskimo whale hunters far north on Point Barrow. And of course at last enough time to buy souvenirs, send postcards, visit downtown cafes and buy some books on sales.
In Anchorage we stopped in Elaine's place, whom we had met few days earlier travelling from Soldotna to Girdwood. Elaine and her husband are very nice and educated people. We spent great time on long evening discussions with wine.
On Thursday 27th of September late afternoon I was flying to Seattle. Next, another night in a plane across the continent. On Friday morning at JFK Ariport in New York I met Chris and Peter. Two days spent in Great Apple were two days too much. After two months of travelling across wild and empty country I felt avalanched by annonymous crowd of people. Not sort of my place.
Sunday September 30th was 53rd day of the journey, 99th day since Marta, Chris and Peter came to Calgary, and 261st day away from home for me. Around 7pm local time my plane landed at F.Chopin Airport, Warsaw, Poland.
