We passed havens, glaciers, woods full of Fall colors, rivers, streams, both little and great lakes (like the mighty Kenai Lake). In Seward we could happily forget about rain. It wasn't and didn't even seem to rain. But the wind was blowing like crazy.
Mount Marathon is 1000m high, and the trailhead is on the sea-level. The name derives from a competition held on 4th of July, when people run up to the top and down to the sea. The all-time record of 44 minutes was set back in the 1980s. We required more than 3 hours and were happy not to be blown off the ridge. One moment I was convinced it has to be devil's influence, as the nature couldn't be that demonic.

On our way to Homer we stopped to visit Ninilchik Village, where an Eskimo community still practices Orthodoxy. There is a very nice orthodox church where services are held by an Eskimo priest. After many visits to Ukraine and Russia this was quite an exotic thing to learn.
Homer is situated on a cliff on a tip between the ocean and the inlet. The view is stunning. Because the tides could be up to 16 feet high people had built
