Mekane Salem

A town in the Ethiopian highlands. It is located beautifully at the Blue Nile, which is said to be the best and the most dangerous river for water-rafting.
The inhabitants are very hospitable, yet very nosey and they follow their visitors wherever they go. You can experience there the Ethiopian coffee ceremony, a significant feature in the country's cultural heritage. First it is roasting and crushing of the wild coffee beans, then adding water and finally boiling.
Most of the people are shepherds. The whole region of highlands is very scenic and picturesque.
