Assab 
Kaśka GlancThe town became a significant port since it was bought by the Rubattino Shipping Company in 1869. Assab was selected carefully due to its strategic location near the straits of Bab el Mandeb, and the possibility that it could become an important trading location between Ethiopia and Arabia.
Nowadays Assab is a modern port, with an oil refinery. It used to be the chief port serving Addis Ababa.
The town consists of three parts. Assab Seghir on the seashore, Assab Kebir in the centre, containing the port and the city centre and Campo Sudan, the previous area of Ethiopian people. There are salt flats all around Assab and there are 30 islands in the Bay of Assab, where you can pay a nice visit.
