Minia city is the administrative centre of El-Minia province and it is a commercial, cultural, business and education centre as well. The city is not big, though there is a university and the residents are perceived as nice and hospitable. If you like sightseeing the city has not much to offer. There are only a few colonial houses. In Minia there is a very big cemetery called Zawiyet el-Mayyiteen. The name of the city comes from the ancient Coptic name and means a horse.
