It is the second biggest town and the chief port of Egypt, Alexandria was built by the Greek at the orders of Alexander the Great. It is located in the north-western part of the country. The name of the city, immortalizes Alexander's name. It was a cultural, academic, political, and financial metropolis.

It was the famous centre of the Ptolemy?s, with many monuments. The Lighthouse (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) and the Great Library were all here. People like Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, and Octavian used to live here.

It is connected with Cairo by two most important highways and a railway. Nowadays it is considered to be one of the most noteworthy resorts in the Middle East
