Lubumbashi

The second biggest town In the country. It was founded as Elisabethville and it is situated 30 km from the border to Zambia. It is an administrative centre of Shaba Region, which serves as a main mining area (cobalt, zinc). There are four railways in the city which link the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean. The city has a population of abut 700 000.
There is a University of Lubumbashi and some botanically interesting plants to see.
