Bukavu

It is an administrative centre of the Kivu Province, which was formerly known as Costermansville. It is located on the southern shore of Kiwu Lake, near the border to Rwanda. In 1994 camps for the Rwanda refugees were created there. About million Hutu people came to live in these camps.


What to see and visit
About 30 km south from Bukavu there is Kahuzi-Biega National Park, where mountain gorillas reside. They are an endangered species. A movie ?Gorillas in the mist? with Sigourney Weaver was shot there.
